Questions about braces

Atlast, after 15 months I am going to get mine off. Only 4 weeks left. Yay!

Now looking at my teeth, they look a lot better. However, I have noticed an imperfection. There is a small gap between my front 2 teeth, but its only in the top part of the divide. Its rather minor, and only visible from like 50 cm max, and only if my mouth is dry. Is this normal? Or will more treatment clear this up too? Or am I being too paranoid?
a wee bit like:

Also, the retainers, how long would I need them for and how often do I put them on?

Does taking the braces off hurt? How do they polish your teeth?

Anonoymous because some people know me IRL and dont want to look like a wee bit of an idiot

retainers you should wear everynight in bed for a few months and then youl go back for a check up to make sure your teeth havent moved and they will advise u wether to keep wearing it or not, the slight gap in your front teeth could be filled with white filling and then will be un noticeable, they polish your teeth by scaleing them with a high powered water maching then polish with like an electric toothbrush type thing and polish hope this helps.

depending on what type of retainers you're given and who your orthodontist is, you could end up being told to wear them all the time for a while or just at nights. the first time i had my braces taken off i was given retainers and told the only time i could take them off was for eating, consequently i didn't wear them and ended up with a second set of braces. this time i've been told that is has to be every night for the first 6 months then start reducing it - though i will have to wear them occasionally for the rest of my life
i can't remember it hurting much when they took the braces off, you just feel a lot of pressure, though i guess it could hurt for some people

Nope. With some electric thing and weird tasting tooth paste!

To answer your question about the gap, it looks to me like that's due to the shape of the teeth (ie they meet in the middle but not at the top) and I doubt that can be changed at all.
