I am thinking of taking an AS in history and I have heard alot of horror stories about edexcels harsh marking ect but the thing is all the people I know who do history do so with edexcel
OK so I will get to the point...
>Does anyone do AS history? >How easy/hard is it? >What exam board do you sit it with? >Level of work required? >'Easiest' exam board for history? (I really dont want a major debate over it but you know what I mean, as students we do know that some exam boards set easier questions, some give marks easier ect ect)
>Does anyone do AS history? I do. >How easy/hard is it? Alright. >What exam board do you sit it with? CIE. >Level of work required? Quite a fair bit. >'Easiest' exam board for history? (I really dont want a major debate over it but you know what I mean, as students we do know that some exam boards set easier questions, some give marks easier ect ect) No idea, but I've heard AQA is pretty difficult.
I did AS history last year with CCEA, was tough enough at times but then I think history is generally but I could do it and thought exam was fair enough. You do have to do work for it, but it's not that bad, as long as you keep up with the work, then it's fine generally. I doubt there's any 'easy' exam board for history though.

>Does anyone do AS history? I did, and A2 as well last year >How easy/hard is it? Not the easiest, but not the hardest >What exam board do you sit it with? OCR >Level of work required? You need to do quite a bit, but you wont find yourself drowning in work >'Easiest' exam board for history? I think OCR was pretty easy
>Does anyone do AS history? I did history up to A-level >How easy/hard is it? It was my hardest subjct >What exam board do you sit it with? Edexcel >Level of work required? Very high, lots of reading and essays, lots of revision and past papers >'Easiest' exam board for history? I don't know, but based on my experience and that of my class, I'd avoid Edexcel like the plague if you can because there's a lot of hoop jumping and they mark really harshly
I do history- exam board AQA. Edexel is RUBBISH as you say. AQA history is great. I would say it is the right balance of everything. If you want to know anything else, just ask
Can anyone actually judge which exam board is easiest, though? Unless they've done History with all of the exam boards... You might be better off just looking at the websites of each exam board and comparing the course specifications for History. Although they'll all be similar.
>Does anyone do AS history? ja >How easy/hard is it? depends on the amount of effort you're willing to put in to it >What exam board do you sit it with? AQA >Level of work required? if you keep up to date not a lot, my course is more reading >'Easiest' exam board for history? (I really dont want a major debate over it but you know what I mean, as students we do know that some exam boards set easier questions, some give marks easier ect ect) well edexcel if you start this year ie 2006 would have been harsh marking but my college has now stopped with edexcel because they put out a report during summer of 2006 which basically outlined that their marking would be well less harsh compared to other boards because they're going into a joint venture with another company (dont remember specifics sry) which also means that if you start history with edexcel in 2007 (finishing 2009) the A lvl would apparently be less respected then if it was with another board.
If you can, avoid CIE and Edexcel. CIE doesn't have the module system and you only have one paper. If you mess up, tough luck. You have to sit the entire syllabus again.
