accident

i was in an accident at work in the middle of last week and have been off work since but i still dont feel like id be able to do my job because of what i hurt etc do you think i should just stay off tomorow aswell or do you think i should go to the doctor and get a doctors line or something.

Call them and explain, some employers can be quite reasonable especially if you hurt yourself while working for them. Then again some can be bastards...I had an operation to get a two inch shard of glass out of my foot in the summer and they wanted me in to work the next day.
If they are being unreasonable either tell them to shove it, sue them and have a hissy fit...or go to the docs.

Just out of curiosity, what happened?

i did do a thread on here about wether to claim or not but i have decided not to claim as i dont want to make an atmosphere at work, shards or glass went all over both of my hands the other thread if u wanna take a look was called just back from a and e

Give them a phone and explain the situation, tell them that you don't feel up to working after hurting yourself while working for them. If you still don't feel up to it the day after, phone the doctor.

its my hands they are still quite sore and tender i dont wanna strain them and just want them to feel better so i do need to rest them and as im a dental nurse id be using my hands all day and plus im not meant to get the dressings wet

There's no way they can make you work if, by working, you are antagonising the injury you sustained in the workplace. Did you fill out a report in the accident log book? If not then you need to, it'll make claiming easier later on. Just explain the situation, they should be OK.

Phone your employer and tell them that then. Explain to them that you are still in a lot of pain, that you need to rest and that you need to keep the dressings dry. Make sure you let them know what happened and that it happened while working. As soon as you do that, I doubt you will have too much trouble cause it will scare that crap out of them no doubt. If your employer does react badly, just tell them straight you're not going in and go straight to the doctors and get a doctors line.

I remember your thread, I hope you are feeling better, a bit at least...

they already know what happened and i got a 2 second phone call on thursday morning asking how i was? and that was it she didnt seem to actually care

The just phone them and explain that you wont be in because you still aren't feeling up to it. Tell them that you will be going to the doctors to get a doctors line, which you should do because it sounds as if you need it, and thats you sorted. Don't worry about it.

so when do you need to get a doctors line ? after how many days ?and should i go 2moro

What did the doctor say to you at the time? If they said something like rest for five days, you take those five days to rest and then if you are still having problems, give them a phone. That seems the most logical thing to do.

I don't suppose it really matters though, just phone and make an appointment for as soon as and speak to them. I don't think there is a right time to get one, you just get one if you need to.

Why did you make yourself anonymous for that post? I would have given you positive rep.

Did you not follow the link? Yes you might have to:

When do I need a sick note?

Whether or not you need a sickness certificate from your doctor depends on your company policy. This should tell you how long you are able to be off sick for before you need a doctor's note. For more information ask your supervisor or speak to someone from Human Resources.

When you return to work after being ill you usually have to fill in a form saying how long you were off sick for and why. This is called a self-certification form. If your place of work does not have any of these forms, you may be able to get one from your GP surgery or from your local DHSS office.

If you are off sick for more than a certain length of time (usually seven days) you will need to get a sick note from your GP.

To get a sick note you will have to make an appointment with your GP. In some cases you may have to pay for the certificate. Your GP practice will be able to advise you of their charges.

Some employers may ask for a sick note if you are off ill for less than seven days. In this instance, your GP is not obliged to provide a sick note so they will probably charge you for the certificate. In some cases, your company may pay the charge.

Yes - otherwise everyone could permanently try and get sick notes and be paid to do no work! If there's a genuine reason why you need one then you should be able to get one.
