Psychology/criminology/police EPQ help !!!

I've just started my EPQ and i'm interested in doing something to do with Psychology, criminology or something along the lines of police work and the forensic investigation or the imprisonment of offenders!!

I am not familiar with EPQ's. What is the scope of the project? Essay? Debate/opinion piece? Small scale research? Does it have to be based purely on existing literature? Can you collect your own data? Does it have to be done within school, or can you access other populations?

You have listed a massive area of interest, is there anything specific about offenders that interests you?
