I've always been a rather shy and quiet person, but I do have a fair number of friends and I suppose I do like to spend alot of time on my own. I've been described as a loner a couple of times, but I thought a loner was someone who doesn't have any friends and is a bit of a social recluse. So, is a loner someone who just simply prefers to be alone? Any thoughts?
A loner is someone who is alone through choice - perhaps they don't like people, perhaps they're too preoccupied with their own interesting thoughts. They grow up to be serial killers, night-shift managers of supermarkets and politicians. I don't think they're the same as shy people.
I would describe myself as a loner, even though I have a small circle of friends because I often enjoy my own company more than other people's.
I know what you mean.I mean i have a lot of friends but sometimes it is just nice to sit by yourself and ponder on a few things.Maybe think about something good that happened recently..or plan something in your head that you're gonna do on the weekend. It honestly doesnt matter if your a loner or a peoples person..as long as your happy thats all that counts really
IMO a loner is a person (and is often intelligent) who's just comfortable and confident for being himself without trying to fit in by expecting acceptance from others.

I don't go out (by choice) and have never had a girlfriend but I want to be a financial executive, not a serial killer. Unless of course I get to carry out my killing with 50. cal depleted uranium rounds fired from an M1 Barrett. Only that could beat the salaries in finance....
