York Notes Advanced has more in-depth analysis and brings in the views of critics and contextual information because it is aimed at A-level students. York Notes is more of a guide to the general reader and is abot GCSE standard in terms of analysis.

i hate the york notes, they really dont help me. Sparknotes are much better!!!

Get the ADVANCED version, so much better.

Yeah, I just ordered it. Even though I'm doing GCSE, it's still so much better for me!

One is designed for GCSE and the other for A level - However I wouldn't really advise either other than for an overview of a specific text.

silken1987, is there something that I can buy to do that?

Erm have you tried Sparknotes? I tend to just keep reading the texts and then develop my own thoughts and analysis of certain areas. Also look out for literary criticism maybe on the internet or in the library.

i got an A* at GCSE revising soley through york notes as i didn't even read the text, just the quotes and summaries on it from yorknotes, i used to get sent out all the time so couldn't participate with class discussions

I find York Notes to be pretty vague and only comment on the basics, which to be fair, you should kind of know already.

York notes advanced, I have found, is much more in-depth, and gives you a fuller understanding of what is being presented in the novel... I have foud it quite useful...

the difference is obvious...York Notes Advanced is more advanced than York Notes! i think York Notes are for GCSE and York Notes Advanced for A level.

^ Yeah, York Notes Advanced is for A level, but I'm finding it quite suitable for GCSE...

Youre better of just using the net (sparknotes, cliffnotes, pink monkey) if you just want to buy york notes.

I find york notes advanced provides more information.

This may just be me, but I find that Yorks Notes have a bad effect on my way of looking at texts. I just end up regurgitating their ideas instead of having my own.
