...that antibiotics make you really grumpy and depressed? Or am I just strange? :s-smilie:

They make me feel like crap because they make me constipated lol. Try eating plenty of bananas, nuts and marmite (unless you're a hater lol) because they help with the release of serotonin (the happy hormone!)

Oh, and are you due on? If you are then it could be PMT?

Reply 3

Urm, no. It's usually what I've been subscribed the anti-biotics for which makes me grumpy, if I'm even grumpy at all.

Reply 4

It's not due to PMT or anything, especially since that doesn't have much of an effect upon my moods.
I've found that it's not limited to a particular type of antibiotic either, since it has happened with Penicillin, Erythromycin and Trimethoprim.

...why did somebody post as anon?

Antibiotics give me pretty bad insomnia and symptoms similar to mild cabin fever. Fun.

Reply 6

Ooh, I just did some Googling and found a nice thread somewhere else where a load of people were talking about how some antibiotics make them depressed/crazy. At least it's not just me then...

Reply 7

Antibiotics always make me tired and grumpy, then I get even more grumpy because I'm so tired - it's a fun cycle.
Say to your GP - maybe there is a different antibiotic or some other medication that would not have side effects for you?

I'll be telling the Doc on Tuesday! One of the problems is that this is the 3rd course of antibiotics since the beginning of February, and all because of a persistant strain of Tonsillitis. My history suggests that a Tonsillectomy would be advisable, but the Doctor here at uni refused to even consider it. Think I'll just discuss it with my GP when I'm at home in the holidays... I really don't want to end up with more antibiotics in the likely event that it returns again next month :frown:

The word tonsillitis - makes me shudder! I had it for nearly a year, finally got them taken out in november.
Seriously find a different doctor and try and get a tonsillectomy! They just keep being annoying! And antibiotics never actually helped me at all.
I seriously pity you, hope you get it sorted out soon!

Thanks
This is my 3rd serious case of it within 9 months. The 2nd case left me with a huge swollen lump for a tonsil, which is still there now.
Like I said, I'm going to see my own GP when I get home because she has my entire history and can see that I suffered as a kid too....

I had similar problem, and it *really* didn't help that i'm allergic (if that's the right word?!) to penicillin etc so the antibiotics never helped!...Made me worse!

Ended up going to hospital one night as i have a really bad reaction, and they were going to arrange an operation then... but maybe my tonsils didn't want to go and they healed themselves... never had an issue since!! (touchwood!)

lol... But yeah, try and get it sorted! Hope you feel better soon :hugs:
