'childhood sweethearts'

(anonymous as I have a lot of rl friends on TSR and don't want them reading all my posts!)

I'm sure a lot of people have had a boyfriend or girlfriend when they were young, who they thought they would spend the rest of their lives with; I know I've thought it one or two occasions. I was just wondering if any 'childhood sweethearts'/young relationships have gone on to successfully get married/engaged/have children?

my mum and dad met when they were young but he left when i was 3 havent seen him since so in that case no it didnt work
I really really liked my boyfriend in high school. I thought there was no one else for me but him. We first started going out when we were 12.lol. I was so sure i'd get married to him. Unfortunately he commit suicide two years ago at the age of 18 due to drugs. Im 21 now...and im over it...but he was such a sweetheart. :frown:

Two of my mates have been together ever since they were six, they're planning on getting married and I can't imagine a more perfect couple.

Aww that is majorly cute!
The only problem i can see with that is the fact that being together from such and early age would mean you would have alot of the same friends/experiences, if they ever broke up so so many of there memories would involve the other, plus having the same friends etc

Ok bit of a kill joy there, its so sweet though regardless!

That's really nice, though I guess it depends on whether or not they mind not experiencing being with other people. I personally wish I'd met my bf when I was in my 30's, cos I'd definitely have married him but as it is he's my first and I can't settle down with him otherwise I'd only end up having an affair with someone else later for the experience.

i totally know what you mean, that was part of the reason i broke up with my first boyfriend, as in the 2 years we were together we were teenagers and so in those 2 years we changed a lot, and i found it odd the thought of staying with someone that i;d grown up with!

as for the couple that got together at 6 - how do you decide to hook up at 6?!
Guess it depends what you mean by a childhood sweetheart really. I know plenty of couples my parents age who have been together since they were 18 but perhaps not so much before that age.

My parents started going out when they were 15 and 16 respectively. When they married, my mum was 19 and they've been together ever since

As for me, I've been with my boyfriend for just over two years, he's my first boyfriend and I'm his first girlfriend, and I hope he'll be the only one.

My old housemaster at school got with his wife when they were at school (and they had kids my age). Apparently he did dump her when they left school (and she used to love telling us she got bought lots of dresses to cheer her up!), but they got back together again.

I never really had a childhood sweetheart, so I don't think I really have the option!
My parents met when they were 11 at school, and have been together since they were 13/14. They have been together ever since and have me and my brother. They never got married though and never will because 'Its just a piece of paper' they say

Me, Ive been with my boyfriend for about 3 and a half years, never split up, never even had a big row. I have been with him since I was 15 and Im almost 19 now. He is absolutley perfect and I know I will never meet anyone who will even come close to him.
Annoyingly enough people never take me seriously when I say that because they seem to think that im 18 and will grow out of it. I expect people said that to my parents too. Idiots

Depends what age you mean by 'childhood sweethearts'. I am getting married next year to my bf of 6 years, who I met at college, but I was 17/18 then and it was not my first relationship, so I suppose thats a bit different.

My best friend recently got married to someone she had been with since the age of 16 and another friend of mine is engaged to someone she has been with since the same age, so it does happen quite often really.
My cousin is 32 and is married to the one she started going out with when she was 13, they have three kids and they're the happiest couple I've met in my life. It does work

Yeah - met him when i was 17 he wasnt my first boyfriend though. I ended it because i wanted to experience life a bit more before settling down, (he was a couple of years older) we got back together last year but i ended it again for the same reasons. Meeting up again next month so we'll see what happens :s-smilie:
