Palpitations

For the last few hours my heart has been beating really powerfully, no faster than usual, just really powerfully. I've been diagnosed with WPW (Wolfe Parkinson White) but the doctors aren't convinced I need any medication to control it.

I haven't eaten anything or drunk anything high in caffiene, and even if I had I would have expected it to have calmed down by now.

It's making me feel really anxious now, and I'm kinda twitchy. I'm not really sure what to do. Last week I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder but I've felt perfectly calm all day, and I've nothing to feel particularly anxious about at the moment.

Any one got any ideas how to calm my heart beat down? It's starting to get me really worried, which obviously isn't helping!

Try listening to relaxing music/ watching tv/ closing your eyes and breathing deeply??
I know its hard but try to not think about it - my heart often races every now and then, but i like to think its nothing serious!! xxx
I've also had problems with anxiety - once it's become chronic you can still experience symptoms even when you're not specifically nervous about something. You're probably tenser than you realise, and the likelihood is that the palpitations started as just everyday tension, and getting worried about them made them worse. Please don't worry - it really doesn't sound like anything serious. As the person above said, it can be pretty difficult but just try and concentrate on something else - read a good book or something else you enjoy. Hope you calm down!

Try doing something to take your mind off it. Read a book, watch tv, listen to some music, talk to someone?

The fact you're thinking about it, makes it worse, which in turn makes you think about it more - it's a viscious circle and a difficult one to break. You might want to think about buying some bachs rescue remedy, about a fiver from most chemists. A few drops of that and it helps calm you down.

Also, you should make an appointment with your GP, they may not realise the severity of how this is making you feel.

Sometimes for someone with a anxiety disorder, it can come up for noreason even if your not worrying about anything.
Plus like Gem said its a vicious cycle which is very hard to break when it starts, also twitching muscles is very normal when your very anxious.
Like everyone else has said try reading, listening to music, watching a dvd anything to distract you

I'm going to go back to the dr's on friday if I can get an appointment. I'm on anti-depressants because of the anxiety and depression i've been suffering with for a while, but they seem to be making me worse at the moment :frown: I know it'll get worse when I lie down, so I think I'll sit up for a while and try to chill out a bit.

Some treatments can make you feel worse especially at first, you should mention that its making you feel worse to your gp.
