Erm...well basically I have a problem where as my computer doesn't save animations as gifs so basically only lets me save them as bitmaps which are still images...
I looked at it before and thought that it was working but it appears not...
I know the animations work as I am able to download them on my mums comp and transfer them across but I am not sure why? Could it be something that comes with windows 2000 that 98 doesn't have?

It's beginning to irritate so does anyone have any ideas on what programmes I need or what the problem is?

Cheers anyway

Do you mean you can't save animated GIFs from a web page? Or you can't save animated GIFs in some other application? Or you can download them on your computer, but they don't play as animated GIFs?

Whenever I (rarely) need to make an animated GIF, I use Animation Shop that comes with Paint Shop Pro (you can download a free 30 day trial). However, I'm certain there are other freeware programs that can do the same thing. I don't know of any off hand, sorry!

Have you tried restoring your internet explorer document so it only covers part of your desktop, and dragging the picture from the web page to the desktop? If it's animated it should preserve the format if you've got problems with saving using the menus.

After attempting to save them from a website, how are you actually then viewing the images? In a graphics program, it will usually only show you the first frame of the image anyway, making the image appear static. Try inserting it into a temporary HTML document and opening that in Internet Explorer to see if they are animated.

To insert an image into a HTML document, use the following tag:

Code:
<IMG SRC="C:\img.gif">
Where 'C:\img.gif' is the path and filename of the image in question.

Oh, sorry it doesn't appear I read your question properly.

My version of Internet Explorer (6) will let me save a GIF as a GIF ... if yours doesn't for some reason, try extracting the required file from Temporary Internet Files.

No, there's no support in the Bitmap (BMP) file format for animations.

Hope this helps,

Sorry to bring up this thread...I know it's a little old however the problem has not been solved and I thought I'd refresh the question as it is most irritating not being able to save animations or things with invisible backgrounds etc...

So- I am using Windows 98, erm...need any details to be able to help?

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated :P

Put simply, it is a bug in internet explorer. There is no way around it - apart from using a different browser.

Er...if it is a bug as you say, it doesn't affect all versions, as I have said, I can do get them on my mums comp...

Ah! Funny that you should bring this thread back up now...my brother just fixed it for me yestarday by looking it up (should have done it myself but ah well..)

Anyway- if anyone else is wondering after having the same problem- if you delete your temporary internet files the problem should be solved -don't ask me why!

www.annoyances.org -I think that's what it was that we found out from...very useful looking site me thinks...
