Archaeology with forensic science

I have no idea where to put this so sorry if it is in the wrong forum!

I am currently in year 12 and was looking at possible courses for if I was to go to Uni. I was just wondering if archaeology with forensic science is a 'worthwhile' course to take. It sounds really interesting to me and something I would enjoy. I just don't know where it may get me in life in the long run.

Thank you

Its a growing field and at the cutting edge of science. Could be a very useful joint honours, but probably not as glamorous as it looks on Silent Witness.

Hi Charles

My name is Amy and I am a third year Archaeology Student at Bournemouth. Down here we also do a Archaeology and Forensics course (and a few others besides which you might be interested in).

As for if it is worthwhile that kinda depends on your definition of worthwhile. There are plenty of jobs out there for archaeologists and having an understanding of forensic science is another string to your bow (seriously that course teaches you a wide range of skills).

If you have a goal (job you want to do) I would suggest researching what that job needs and then going from there (start by looking at http://www.prospects.ac.uk/)

On the other hand if you don't really know what you want there is nothing wrong with picking something that sounds really interesting. BUT RESEARCH FIRST! Because you are going to be studying this for three/four years and it will be hard. Make sure the course is suited to you and is something you want to do.

But from personal experience I can tell you this: if you are studying something you love, it is the best thing in the world. Some days are really hard but you wont regret it

Going to university is about figuring yourself and what you want to do out. Lots of people get a degree in something that is not related to what they do in later life. And if that degree is a science degree, you are quids in. Science degrees are wanted by lots of employers, so it wont hurt your prospects even if you don't join the police.

If you want to know more do let me know  I am happy to help (as you can tell I love archaeology!)

Amy
