Imo when someone outwardly says the words 'I love you as a friend' or anything of a similar sentiment, it signifies that they like you but not intimately "so please don't get the wrong idea" etc.

From what you've said it sounds like he's worried about the kissing incident leading you to think he wants you, esp. knowing you like him, but he wants to reaffirm that this is not the case and is currently with someone else. As for reading into other signals, eg cheek kiss and whatnot... don't bother, long, often wrong, amongst other things, just get on with life

unfortunately, knowing the average guy (being a bloke myself), i'd say if he wished to move on with you, he'd have made some osrt of reasonably pathetic/unpathetic, but equally obvious move. But the whole "i love you as a friend" thing is most likely to mean exactly what it says on the tin. He likes you as a friend, but beleives relationship isn't going to to work.

but hey, i might be wrong! so keep smiling luv

Yeah Ill confirm that one:

A kiss on the cheek after saying that is obvious its not gonna go further. Nothing wrong with caring for a friend very much so, its not intimit love so therefore a kiss on the cheek is nothing to read into at all.

"I love you as a friend"
Again like above is the reassurance that, that is where the relationship is going to stay.

"I love you as a friend" as Livethefire implied...that's what he means...

ON the plus side for a guy to say "i love you as a friend" means he obviously wants to keep your friendship going...so smile...friendship is the nest best thing!
