Hello everyone. I am currently in my gap year and I have applied to Computer science at University in 2016.

I have researched about computer science however I do not have knowledge of technical and common things that you learn in the subject.

I was wondering if anyone knows any good books/videos where I could learn computing which also includes Programming ( Preferably Java). Even If I have to learn the basics from GCSE/A level computing I'm happy. I would just like some recommendations of good books and videos which I could watch to prepare me for degree level Computer Science this does not just mean programming, I also want to learn about Databases, operating systems and anything else that is taught in Computing.

I really appreciate the help, thanks!

P.S I am aware that mathematics is important in Computer science but I have good resources to learn it. Also if you have any advice in writing a good computer science personal statement ( technical advice like some things I should talk about, then that would be great, even If I have to research specific topics independently).
