Hi all,

So currently, I'm a year 12 student studying my A Levels at sixth form.
At my school, 1/4 of year are year 12 retake students.
I'm concerned I might be in that position if I don't perform as well this year. So, as a backup, should I attend the open days of nearby colleges? To ask them questions regarding if they allow year 12 retake applicants?
Is that a good idea?

It's October. The academic year just started. It's not a good idea to be thinking about retaking Year 12 when you've only experienced a month of it. Instead of thinking about going to open days, maybe try out some studying.

I don't see why it wouldn't be? It's not like attending open days can jeopardize your application, right?

Hello,

I'm going to be honest, A-Level retakes are bad, and can reflect badly on you when applying to UNI. As someone has already pointed out, you should not be focusing on retakes when you have just entered year 12. You get out what you put in, so if you don't want to have to retake your exams, I suggest you work really hard and can guarantee if you put the work in, you will be fine!

... not necessarily. I retook year 12 with different subjects going from EEUU to ABC. I'm applying to Cardiff this year who have explicitly said that they won't discriminate against me for having retook year 12. Unless you're applying to Oxbridge/LSE or Medicine/Dentistry etc, the university likely won't hold it against you. I'll update this if I actually get an offer from Cardiff
