If a bouncer tries to pull something on me I just give him a look. It's a brilliant look; it says "just let me in mate" for me.

I hate bouncers. Over compensating for something.

Yeah most of them are on power mad trips.

Do you think that it could be maybe because most of the problems stem from pissed students?

They have to look like that, there supposed to be imposing. It's like why do policemen always look serious, because they are authority figures. Mind you some are just *******s as well bouncers I mean, well let's face it we've all met some arsey police officers as well .

i hate bouncers with a passion, was out with mates at the weekend. Wouldnt even let me into my local, even though we had official govt ID cards, saying they dont accept them ( i mean...wtf??!) . Yet theyre willing to let 12 year old girls in?

They stand on the door, quite happy to give it all that, but as soon as a fight breaks out inside they're no where to be seen! They always seem to be self-important and think they're above everyone else. Anyone else had this?

...Because they are paid to stand at the door?

I think most bouncers work hard, and at the end of the day they're doing their job. The bouncers at Cardiff Union, and the Barfly where I used to work, are great people who ensure the club's clients have a great night.
gives them a sense of power, most of them are bailiffs during the day which sums them up perfectly. sub-human scum.

To be honest, bouncers are doing a job most other people wouldn't do, hence its easier to mock them rather than see there point of view of having to deal with abusive drunk people.

Because they are forced to stand outside in the cold having passports and drivers licences being shovved in their faces, not to mention a countless number of under-agers that have to be turned away.

However, they are a bunch of cocks.
I am sure you will find people become Bouncers for many reasons, I have actually worked with Bouncers who are Students themselves. I have worked with professional academically qualified people who earn some extra money at weekends working as Bouncers. I do it not for a power trip but for extra money to pay the bills. I am not a bully, neither am I someone who does not back down to the hard job that we have to perform. I am there to make sure those who want to have a good time (within reason) are safe and sound and are able to go home without first attending the Emergency suite of some hospital. We can't please all the people all the time, and when there is a serious confrontation, I am not the one that starts that but either bad attitude, or drunk or drugged up crazed state of the individual we are dealing with. At times we piss students off not because they are drunk but maybe because of dress code, or a random search requirement to enter the venue (we don't make the rules the management and licensing conditions do). I always believe in de-escalation not escalation, but with some individuals that is not possible. If you try to struggle or throw hands you are likely to lose and that again pisses you off. So when someone makes derogatory statements about Bouncers, please consider what has motivated them to do so. Why have they taken out the time to do that. Is the fault always that of the Bouncer or have they done something that night that has caused the situation. I do accept there are bullies out there with a badge and believe me when I witness that I tell them, either change your attitude or leave. By the way I love working with students, yes you do get the odd obnoxious individual that believes we are just mere Serfs, but on the whole students are very interesting and nice people who deserve the best service we can provide. I have been working on and off on the Doors since the late seventies and I try to pass on my knowledge to new and upcoming Bouncers and give a better impression to those customers who may see us at weekends. Never had a single issue with a bouncer in my life. Generally, it's dead easy to get on with bouncers if you aren't an uppity ****.

Also, old as **** thread, man.
