Problems sleeping

I've been having some real trouble sleeping and waking up lately, it's been taking me about 2 hours at least to get to sleep, no matter what time I go to bed.
And no matter how long I've slept, I can't wake up in the mornings! I slept through the entire week of college last week, simply because I'd wake up at 8, then feel crap (all achey, pressure behind the eyes, headache) and no matter how much I want not to I'll sleep until midday. Even some days I've set several alarms, and not heard them go off at all, and woken up 4 hours late. It's just becoming a real PITA! I've tried a couple of late night beers to calm down, but that doesnt seem to work.
Any tips on getting a better nights sleep? :frown:

Sleeping tablets can help you to get into a routine if you are careful with them they worked for me. Try reading, if you are only waking up at 12.00 im not surprised you can't sleep try forcing yourself to get up.

Yeah, same with me...and even if I do manage a few hours sleep I will wake up at three in the morning and not be able to get to sleep again.

I have had this problem for years..
i went to the doctors cos it was getting me down and was falling behind in school work etc. They suggested a couple of ways:
The usual - warm bath (dnt have a shower cos it wakes u up more), they all say it.. but it can help!
Warm drinks before hand
Eat dinner earlier
Dont watch tv
I also got prescribed sleeping tablets that i had to take which helped soo much. But u can get addicted to them so i only went on them for 2 months and after the first month i only took one every other day..now im taking them when i am espially tired. It helped..u get your sleeping pattern sorted but with out relying on them

If it's really that bad, like the doctor said mine was, then he recommended not to take anything like Kalms or anti-histamines because they're ****. I have some stuff perscribed by him called Zopiclone. It's mild and I still don't really get the full amount of sleep I need, but I can get near enough.
I also write down anything that bothers me because I find it can help to clear it from my mind a bit.
