How difficult did you find first year Economics @ LSE?

Poll

How did you find your 1st year Economics course?

I was just wondering how did people find the EC100/ EC102 course at LSE.

Personally on a scale of 1-10, I found EC102 at about 7-8ish. Some of the concepts seem to be straightforward, others require more thought, but it's all a matter of playing around with the equations and being intuitive. I guess it's the amount of reading, rather than the difficulty behind understanding it, which puts me off sometimes

I must say, it's been my favourite course in the first year

Screw stats, screw accounting

I like polls
Why did you take A&F in the first place Dan? Why didn't you apply to straight Econs since you do not seemed to enjoy accounting? By the way looks like the last option in the poll is leading!!^^

Don't get me wrong, I love the finance part, it's really nais, I laik, but the accounting is the thing which bores me to death. Maybe it was because of the lecturer we had for michealmas term...

Accounting is ok I suppose, maybe I should stop saying it sucks and pretend I love it, then I'll have more motivation to revise it

It's a nightmare compared to A levels.

On a serious note, I don't know, since I haven't done it at A Level  Sorry. Although from the people who have done it at A level, I hear that it's a lot different in terms of the things you learn, but there are some overlaps too (for example different cost curves).

i hate accounting as well!!! I'm doing it at A-level, and i just hate it !!!! it's probably the lecturer that makes me feel that accounting is the hardest subject in the world...

Not really- but some of the things piss you off so much you feel like never looking at them again.

Ah right...like what things? Is it stats? because stats piss me off right now  but i hate the class i'm in and i feel we never get anywhere so that's probably why i hate it...

Fortunately accounting is nothing like stats :P It's just that some of the work is really monotonous, but some is also interesting.. to a certain extent.

With regard to stats - I'm pretty sure it will be my lowest mark

I should be doing some stats revision but I'm properly into my econ reading :P and I've just downloaded Saw III which I'm gona watch in about an hour and after that play Warcraft ;p

Isn't Stats supposed to be the easiest paper?!

I'm doing the half module for stats, but the thing is, the quantity of information in it is very close to the full ST102 module.

In agreggate, people who do maths+stats half modules have more work to do.

How can you say that!?!?! Stats as part of A level maths (which I assume you refer to) is amazing, you do the same thing for every question but with slightly different numbers and maybe a hypothesis test thrown in and get 100%

is Accounting boring, there has always been the association of Accounts and boredom lol, my cousin said Managment is "more interesting" but then she contradicted herself by saying that the first year for both are the same? hmm when i was there the guy mentioned transfers into the Econ department, is anyone thinking about this!

HAHAHAHA!! It's so monotonous! I used to piss around in my math class in A Levels complaining and whining to my teacher how everything is so stupid and pointless and how stats isn't maths and I'd refused to do anything, it was my favourite class

I had a friend exactly like that . Our teacher was awesome - when going through answers he was like "do this, do this, do this, the answer is simplicity itself"
