stupid mouse

The other day I was at home when downstairs to let my bf in, then when I went back to my bedroom, I saw a mouse run back under the bed, and i totally FREAKED out and have not been back since. It was soo bad, anyone remember tom and jerry and that lady, well that was me that night. My question is, how to do I get rid of it and how do I know its gone? and also why would it have been there in the first place, a mouse has driven me out of my home can you believe it?

Don't kill it, it's only a little mouse.

A mouse trap is a good idea, but use a HUMANE one - i.e. one that catches it in a little box and then you let it out. You can find them easily and cheaply at B&Q.
Don't talk to me about mice - I've been sharing my home with the little b**tards for about a year and a half now and I'm at the end of my tether.

I tried humane mousetraps at first - caught 5 mice and drove them up to the park and released them.
They aren't cheap those mousetraps let me tell you. Nearly a fiver each.
Anyway, tried washing them out (they were full of mouse poo) and none of them worked again. The doors wouldn't stay up.

So humane mouse traps didn't work, and by this time the mice were starting to find their way into the kitchen cupboards and things. Eating all the food. Leaving poo everywhere. EUGH so unhygienic. NOT ON.

So we abandoned the humane approach and got serious.

Second attempt was poison. We bought boxes and boxes of the stuff. That isn't cheap either. Laid it all round the house (out of the way of my kiddo of course). It all got eaten. We refilled it. Still got eaten. Carried on refilling.
In all that time we only found ONE dead mouse. Meanwhile evidence of other mice very much alive still continued.

Attempt number 3:
regular snap mouse traps.
Now these are much cheaper. 99p per trap. That's more like it. We've got them laid around the house - again though, we've only caught one mouse.
The little b**tards eat the chocolate that is baiting the traps and somehow manage to avoid setting the traps off!

It's beyond a joke now. We've got zillions of them all over the place. They come out mostly at night - even when I'm sitting at the computer they'll pop their heads around and look at me.

Yes, they're very cute, but THEY MUST DIE!

We're moving out in a month or twos time, so before we do we're going to just get the exterminators in.
I tried to be kind. I didn't like the idea of killing them. Honestly though, after THIS long, now I just don't give a damn.

Having said all that, the only advice I can offer to you is...well....none really. I still have mice after more than a year, so basically......good luck!!

ETA: Don't be fooled into thinking that you only have one mouse. Where there is one mouse, there are at least 20 more. You probably have loads I'm sorry to tell you.

Please bear in mind that one mouse does not equate to an infestation, so a humane trap would work. We had one mouse living in our house for months before it finally found its way out.

You were very lucky.

I originally thought I had one mouse....everyone I told (including the pet shop guy when we went to buy humane mouse traps) warned me that where there's one mouse there's probably zillions more.

I was in denial. "No no, it's just one mouse" I replied.

I was so wrong, and they were so right.

Borrow someone's cat. Or invest in a kitten. It's the circle of life: ahhhhhhhhhhh! that way you don't have to feel bad about the mouse dying as it's "nature".

Great now I can't get the clog song out of my head.

I saw a mouse where, there on the stair
Where on the stair? Right their.

oh my... I do hope its just the one, it was stupid the way I freaked out. I would get a mouse trap, don't really want to kill it as seeing a dead mouse in my room would be more horrifying than seeing a live one to me... eughhh. Anyway, it seems as though theres only the one, I've only seen it once and my housemate doesn't seem to know about any others, or knowing my luck they are probably all shacked up in my room.

I don't mind the idea of the humane mouse trap where it gets stuck in a box

anyone know why they come? I've been living in the place since june and this is the first time I've seen them, is it likely that they were there all a long? or could they have just 'moved in'
Could have just moved in.

By all means try the humane mouse trap. Like I said, I did manage to catch 5 humanely so you might have some luck. No chance getting rid of them all that way if there's more than one, but touch wood there is only the one.

Tip - bait it with chocolate
Oh and don't put it in the middle of the floor. Put it up against the skirting board or wall in an area where the mouse goes (look for evidence of poo)

perhaps if you sat down with the mouse over cheese and crackers the two of you could work something out.

How do you know? We live next to a forest so one could easily have gotten in :p:

Besides, they're all gone now.
we've had mice in our halls.. my friend had one in her room and got one of those humane traps which caught nothing.. then pest control finally came and put what at the time we thought were traps down the wrong end of the flat.. we've since discovered that there's poison inside them and they do not trap the mice.. nice..

I heard nibbling in my room the other week so I decluttered, hoovered everywhere (floor wise lol).. didnt hear anything else till the other night I thought I heard something but still no sighting of a mouse in my room.. I can't wait to leave these halls.. we were also told back in january (when the mouse problem started) that we had ants as well.. we havent seen any *touch wood*
we had one...we eventually caught it and released it..mind you my did try and poison it
to keep a cat , let it disappear naturally,
that would be nice

A good ratter is worth it's weight in vet bills and kitty litter. Get two cats, I bet you'll have less mice and if they leave little presents, well it's better than having a mouse nest under your floor boards. Cats are great company too. Like dogs but without the sycophantic drooling and fawning.
