Hello people.

At LSE are all years of undergraduate study weighted equally when calculating your degree class/final percentage grade (assuming you take the same number of credits in each year)?

Or does the first year of study count for less than the second and third years?

You do four modules each year.

In your first year, the grades of your best three modules are averaged. This average counts for 1/9th of your degree.

Each of the eight modules in your second and third years count for 1/9th of the degree.

The irony is that if you do 2 half modules, you do 5 modules in total. If you fail two modules, you don't advance to the second year.

Now, assuming you get 1sts in your 3 full modules but fail your 2 half modules (which sum up to 1 full module), you will not advance.

How crazy is that? You can end up with a 1st and not advance to the second year.

To achieve certain class of degree you require 5 out of 9 of the marks to be of that class or above. OR you can have 4 out of those modules with that class and a certain overall point score.

Whoa. So why would anyone ever take half-modules? Even if they seem interesting, that's a substantial risk.

I didn't even know you could do half-modules, heh. Are they a popular option?

Well, Management Sciences people all *have* to take half modules in the first year for Maths + Stats, they have no option.

Apart from that, it does seem to be popular, although not as popular as MA100/ST102.
does anyone know whether you can do outside options for law? im really gonna miss english lol
I'm guessing the answer to this question is no, but can you take more modules (i.e. 5 or 6)?

Yes you can. You can choose to do one non-law module either in your second or 3rd year, but not both. I don't think the LSE Language Centre offer a pure English course. However they do offer English and English Literature. Some of my friends have taken Logic, History, or a Language as an outside option. I myself on the otherhand will be doing Econs as an outside option next year.
