Leicester for law?

Please can someone tell me a bit more about law at Leicester.

- What sort of reputation does the law department have? It seems to rank quite highly.

- What are employment prospects like with a good degree?

- How many contact hours in the first year? How much private study? Do you have any days off?

Sorry for all the questions! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lisa

Reply 8
i see but if ur good firms will sponser you through the LPC, however living costs may outweigh the move.

..true but queen mary for example is in top 15 for law but know where to be found in times uni league table..

leeds is 11- law- but where is it in uni overall ranking?

i say check out alumni names etc see what they acheived after leicester..le is not the best but it still pulls its weight..in my opinion, i hasten to add.

i agree xnikko...leeds may be 11 for law but its overal ranking is like 30 something. whilst leicester is 18...i don't think there is THAT much difference between the two (i visited them both)...i mean i would be worth the move if i got into KCL or something if u no what i mean.

Also, league tables are shi*e, and should be taken that seriously - there different each year! :P
hey there is a thread all about law at leicester in the leicester sub-forum so rather then retype what i have said before, just have a look there!

hi all.Im a second year lawyer at leicester uni, in my opinion leicester has a great law department with excellent facilities, in the first year you will most probably get 8-10 hours of lectures and two one hour tutorials a week.Bearing in mind as you gradually progress through the year certain topics such as 'learning legal skills' will only have seminars and no lecutres.Whats more is that leicester holds law fair every year where big law firms do turn up, so its not that the department doesnt have good links or a good reputation i mean otherwise why would the firms come here? Also being in second year i know of dozens of people that have secured training contracts or even vacation placements that may eventually lead to training oppurtunities. So in that sense leicester for law is quite respectable.

I don't want to be too negative but i think what you're writing can be very very misleading for some people. Leicester law will surely not give you the same prospects as Durham, LSE, Notts, UCL and a bunch of others (with everything else being equal). Add to that, please don't play down Oxbridge's significance as a law school too because it is futile and, again, misleading. Oxbridge won't guarentee success but it'll make the chances of it significantly higher in most cases.

Leicester is a good law school but to say anything more (or less) would be inaccurate, and i think most will agree.

I'd ask you to point to objective facts to back up these assertions or withdraw them as they are unfounded in fact as the post you are decrying.
