do some of this clubs have a page on the web? or is there a page that lists what is on where. it would be very cool to have a central place to go and look up which bands play tonight and so on

If you like house, techno, trance or breaks then don't forget Tangled, at the Phoenix (uni precinct) every Saturday night....

One of the DJs (Terry) looks like Billy Idol

Went to Satan's Hollow last night, it was ace! They had a bit of a ska binge.
Mutz Nutz plays cheesy classics sometimes like BSB's 'Everybody' - just what you need sometimes...!
For a one off night out, then i'd definately say 5th Ave!!! You'l never forget your first few experiences in 5th ave, especially if you go midweek when drinks are cheap. The first few times i went i was amazed by the quality of the music, but you'll soon find that the stone (****ING) roses, oasis, smiths, red hot chilli peppers etc set list they play, is pretty much the same EVERY SINGLE TIME. That can get annoying. I'm sure everyone who has been there though has had one of their best nights out there. (I never understand why, at the weekend though they play about 4-5 dance songs half way through the night that the vast majority don't like)

42nd street is fairly similar, it plays slightly better (variety) of music. I'm never too keen on the venue though. Long and thinnish with over zealous bouncers.

I've only been to the brickhouse once, on a friday night. I seem to remember it being a nightmare to get served at the bar and when you do get served, its a bit pricey. Wassn't keen on that venue either. I think they were going for the "industrial look". I don't think it worked.

For bars before hand... i like scubar, the overdraught above 5th ave is good (and v. cheap midweek), student unions (both on oxford road and old umist campus are good). Bars in the printworks are pretty good too, though tend to be pricey. But essentially, theres bars EVERYWHERE!!! It just depends what attributes you like

:-D

PS: For food atthe end of the night, from bbc area, BABYLON is the ooooooooonly place to go. Delicious.

5th Ave in the weekend is a nightmare, too many scallies, drinks are too expensive and its the same old music. During the week its much more student based, the drinks are cheaper and the music is a bit more adventerious, I even cought them playing Joy Divison's Transmission on a Thursday.

I like 42nd Street, the bouncers are stricter on the door, but they are much less rough than 5th Ave's. The key to getting into 42's is not to where a shirt, I've seen plenty of people being turned away for that.

However lately is gone up its self a bit, its full of posers who think they are better than the 5th Ave crowd.

I agree for the first manc night out 5th Ave is probably the best place, but avoid it during freshers week!.

ooooh i cant wait to go..(providing I get AAA!)

Just wondering if anyone can tell me the best clubs to go to for latest chart music/classics like Michael Jackson and Queen..
Also anyone knew any good RnB clubs?

Club Trop, Deansgate Locks, AU social, the Printworks, OP Bob, anywhere in the Gay Village... plus many more
Another good place is SubSpace, near Acadamy of Sound, off oxford road, but it depends on which night you go.

Jabez Clegg is o.k, its abit of a mixed bag though. And Baa Bar if your feelin a bit fruity.

But the best place is probably 42nd street, its easy to get into, but isnt full of idiots, great atmosphere, cheap, good mix of music (i.e wednesday=retro, thursday=madchester etc). But it does get packed sometimes on the weekends, (not as bad as 5th ave which is mental!).

Subspace on a Thursday is I love the 80s - 80p entry, 80p drinks, 80s music.. i love it! Other good cheese/classics places are the Zoo off Grosvenor Street, the legendary Footage on a Monday Nite (£1 drinks 8pm-2am) and the AU Social on a Wednesday at Picaddily 21s (in the town centre). And of course the Bop on a Friday at Owens Park for cheap drinks and cheesy music and that high school disco feeling!

The worst thing about 42s is Chris the DJ. I find that he is so up himself the club really needs to get somebody new in. He is a neighbour of mine as well and I know he is the biggest up him self t**t ever. Of course this is just my personal opinion.

Otherwise its a good club, you tend to get less trouble there than 5th Ave, but then you rarely get trouble in 5th Ave.
Hey, thats exactly what i'm doing. There's two people from my school going to Uni of Manchester and one guy going to the met; we're all heading up to Manchester after the exams and going out.

Spot the Ritz in the films Billy Liar and 24 Hour Party People

And the dance floor bounces!

Jillys Rockworld rooms 2 and 3 were used in 24 hour party people in the scene with Peter Kay.

And the AU Social won't be at Piccadilly 21's next year. I don't know where it will be but its definatly moving.
Reply 38
Yep the Ritz is also used in 24pp as well but I think its supposed to be the Ritz, were Rockworld is supposed to be the Russel Club in Moss Side (which is now long gone).

I might watch that film later I've not seen it for ages.

Also in Billy Liar you can see the Piccadilly Tower half built
