I play in defence whenever I play 9 a side football. I must say in terms of playing football, I much prefer playing in defence because of the strategic aspect of it, covering space and the like. So, going straight into it, who are your favourite defenders of all time in terms of their style and ability?

Of the current day lot, I really like watching Varane play, and Pique at his prime playing it out of defence is a thing of beauty. Bonucci with an honourable mention.

    Nemanja Vidic

As much as it pains me to say it I like Kompany too. He's everything a captain should be on and off the pitch

Vidic was such a dream defender. Him and Rio in their primes would **** all over the current league.

Vidic was just too much. Surprised SAF didn't name him as world class. Everything you want as a defender.

    Beckenbauer & Maldini obvs mentions.

I only really saw Cannavaro when he played international games but watching that little man dominate players way taller than him was incredible. I also used to love Ashley Cole before he left for money. Currently, I adore Bellerin. I know he has so much more to learn and develop, but he's already great, and I can't wait to see how high his peak is.

Genuinely loved watching Carragher between 2004 and 2009.

He was such a last-ditch type of defender, and that made it exhilarating. Sure, he wasn't JT or Rio, but it was way more entertaining watching Carra's last ditch heroics than the composed aforementioned duo.
