I'm thinking of paying for this for my son but just wondering whether anyone that has used it is happy with the service? The info on it says, 'specialist feedback for all major subjects, including Law and Maths', but what about Geology, I'm guessing that's too specialist?
    Thanks

It would be much better value to have it seen by teachers at his school who will do this kind of thing for free.

Hi there-just tagging in The Learn Ranger who runs this service so he can explain more . We had a great response from those who bought a review last year but yes do get it reviewed by your own teachers first if you can

Most schools and teachers do a fantastic job in advising students about their personal statements. They know you best and are the right people to go to first.

Some students aren’t so lucky. They may be isolated, abroad, in a very small sixth form or in a school that isn’t that great at guiding students through the uni application process.

These are the people our service is primarily aimed at.

We have a team of reviewing teachers who work with a teacher coordinator (a senior tutor in a large sixth form college). The reviewers are all very experienced at advising on personal statements and trained by us so there is some consistency in the service.

For example, a minimum number of comments are required, the reviewer provides guidance on the direction and content of the statement but never rewrites anything. They also don’t correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, instead they ask the student to check this if there is a problem.

Our team covers most of the large subjects. In the case of a smaller subject like Geology, I would imagine our coordinator would pass that to the Geography specialist.

The service is not designed to be profit-making, only to cover costs. We have to pay reviewing teachers, our coordinator and there are some admin costs for us. On top of that there’s VAT.

Students who have used the service have been very happy with the quality of the reviews and found them really helpful.

Based on what is stated above - a geography specialist reviewing a geology statement is unlikely to be able to spot any subject related issues. The degrees are very different and a geography degree plus teaching qualification will provide little to no (or even misleading) insight into the content of a geology degree.

If your son studies Geology A/AS level then it would be better to run the PS past their Geology teacher for checking.

Thanks for your replies. His college isn't that great but he does have decent English and Geology lecturers, so I think I'll get him to ask them

Hey, I'm applying to study medicine in the UK from India and used a medicine review service. I'm quite satisfied with it I think. They sent me a detailed 6 page review in a day and half. So I think you should probably consider that. Best of luck!

Pretty unlikely to be helpful or relevant to anyone applying for geology, as OP's son is.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I forgot they only do that for med students therefore the name. Hah.
You could probably look into Tsr's expert review.
