My personal statement is really not going well, I finally became slightly happy with it and then my dad read it and has said it is a load of rubbish and doesn't sound like me! I am so stuck and don't know what to do about it anymore and am seriously doubting i'll get on the course now!

Worst thing you can do is panic. The first time I showed it to a teacher, it was called "horrible". Not paraphrasing. 2 weeks later, the same teacher said it was brilliant. Just work hard on it, ask for advice from teachers (especially those related to your subject) and don't show it to many people at all. It's all about just sitting down and figuring out what you need to say.

    Don't lose hope.

EDIT: Mine was called horrible for the exact reason you stated "doesn't sound like me". Your dad may be right. Forget about impressing an admissions officer. You need to be yourself and let your true passion for the subject come out.

After 4 weeks and 14 drafts I've ALMOST finished - mine looks completely different to how it did in the beginning, just don't panic. Sit down with a new word document and write a rough new one. Then compare to the old. Mix em up, swap bits and expand and go into more detail. It will not come easy but you'll be okay.

My teacher kept asking me why I wanted to study Biology and every time I would reply with "I don't know". About the 4th time she asked I lost my temper and said its because "I like the application of biological concepts! " and tadaa I had my intro (kind of!)

So what do you want to study at university and why?

One thing to do would be to not post your personal statement on TSR.

    Sounds familiar!

Get your Dad to go through it more slowly and underline any sentence he thinks does not sound right. Answer (out loud) the question "what was I trying to say in that sentence"? Spoken language (provided you clean it up for the written version!) usually sounds the most natural.

Stick at it...it does not come easy to anyone.

Have you worked through TSR's personal statement builder?

Its stressing me out so much that words and sentences are just getting jumbled up in my head and I don't even know where to start now. I'm startingg to get behind in my A-Levels now too because of it!
Thank you for the advice though! I'm now looking through TSR personal statement builder and it looks like it will be helpful!

Thank you for the advice! Going to get an early night and get at it tomorrow with pretty much a clean slate, hopefully it goes well!

I tried doing that and it ended up being a mess so I scratched it! Might try doing that again though with a better mind set and seeing if anything good comes out of it! Really hoped to send it off soon though as I want to do nursing and its so competitive as its such a popular course.

    Thank you for the help!x
