    Okay the question is this:

It says in previous questions that compound z loses no water when treated with a dehydrating agent, and it contains the octahedral complex of chromium ions, with the general formula CrCl3.6H2O
What does it mean when it says calculate the formula for the complex ion in compound z?

It means that the complex contains all of the water molecules in the octahedral complex and that the chloride ions are balancing ions. i.e. the complex ion is [Cr(H2O)6]3+ and has three chloride ions in the salt.

I got that part, sorry I wasn't very clear, I meant what it meant by "calculate the formula". I've never met a question phrased like that before.
