    Good afternoon,

I am currently finishing my MA in Czech Republic and I will be applying soon to the PhD programme at the UCL's SSEES, division of Politics & Sociology.

Does anybody know what is roughly the acceptance rate for the programme? Is it very competitive? I have relatively average grade from the BA (although high final and thesis grades). Might this lower my chances significantly? However, my grades from MA programme are so far the highest possible.

I have also consulted my proposal with a member of staff and his reply was very enthusiastic (he said he likes it and would be certainly interested in supervising me). Does this actually mean anything?

    Thank you for answers!

Getting a place isn't usually an issue, its 'funding' that prevents most people doing a PhD.
'Enthusiasm' from a potential supervisor is good - but that isn't the sames as 'Yes', or 'here's a Studentship'.

The only way you'll find this out is by applying ......

Thank you for the answer. I am indeed quite aware that the expressed enthusiasm is not a "yes", nor the "here's a Studentship." That is quite apparent. I, however, wondered whether this is common and I should not be overly satisfied with it or if it might be an indice that I might get accepted.

Thanks for clearing the things for me.

And yes, I am also considering possible options of funding my PhD.
