Music concert newbie questions :)

I'm a music concert Virgin, and looking to book tickets for me and my gf to go and watch a band.
Tickets go on sale soon, but I'm wondering what actually happens, it says it starts at 6pm leaving me not a lot of time to go from work, pick up my gf and get there. So would 6pm actually be the time the act starts or would it be a support act? And if I get there say 6 30 would they still allow us in?
Sorry for the complete lack of knowledge on this!

If it says doors open at 6pm, then that's the time that people are allowed to enter the venue. If there are support acts, they usually start about half an hour after the doors open (in my experience anyway). Try not to arrive more than about half an hour after the doors open, as they will close up at some point and you don't want to risk being stuck outside!
