Ok so I want to take a computer science degree. So far I'm only "sure" about Glasgow and Aberdeen (and not even that sure...)
For the 3 other places the main candidates are:
Leeds, Nottingham, Exeter, UAE, Sheffield and Newcastle

As last resource I can take out one of the scottish unis

I'm trying to get myself more into the artificial intelligence path if that helps shortlisting. Also a nice city with a good student and night life is appreciated
Finally good CS conditions (modern computers, facilities, etc)

I'm almost tempted to choose Leeds and Nottingham but Sheffield and Exeter seem good too

    Thanks

Where do you live? You appear to have considered universities from the very top to the very bottom of the country. Have you considered the practicalities of studying at Aberdeen or Exeter? What would you do if you wanted to pop home one weekend for a hug and a hot meal?

As for universities - have you been to their departments for an open day? This will answer your questions regarding facilities etc. With regard to AI - keep your options open and stay as a generalist for the first couple of years but if it is still your bag, enquiring if there are any AI options or modules you can take in your final year. A university that has an AI department or teaching staff is a bonus.

    Good luck!

    Thanks
I don't live in the UK so I can't attend open days. Also I have already lived in Aberdeen. But I don't know about the practicalities because apart from London and some Scottish cities, I don't know anything else

Sheffield and Nottingham are on my list; both have great courses, fantastic facilities, and are top notch in terms of research, plus you've got the cities.

I looked at Leeds but it doesn't seem to carry as much prestige as many other unis.

Have you considered Warwick? Their CompSci department is one of the best in the UK and was ranked 2nd for research last year. It's not in a city, but everyone appreciates the student lifestyle and community feel you get from the campus. A half an hour bus journey can get you into Leamington Spa too so nightlife's not all that bad.

I live in Newcastle and want to move away so I didn't pick it, but the city is great, everything's cheap and you're close to the coast too. The entry requirements seem to be lower as well, but I haven't done much research into the course.

Thanks that helps a lot. Yes I have considered Warwick and Bristol but their requirements are a bit higher than my predicted. I'll keep my researches going to know if Exeter and Newcastle are worth it
