# AS physics questions help- total internal reflection and the photoelectric effect watch

1. Hiya,

I'm not sure how to work out part bii. for summary question 3.

I'm also stuck on part 3C. of this sheet about the photoelectric effect as I think I've got confused about the different formulas to use!

Thanks for any help in advance

So have you done part b? If so then you have the work function of the metal so then you can work out velocity using

I can't help you with the refraction question since you haven't given the answer from part a) or the refractive index of the materials

Thanks for your help. Sorry I forgot that it tells you the refractive index on the previous page. It is 1.55 for the glass and I've calculated that the angle of refraction in the film (part b.i.) as 30°. The film has a refractive index of 1.4.

For the photoelectric one I was on the right track/ had picked the right formulas but I think I've worked out the work function in part b incorrectly. What's the best way to calculate the work function in this instance?

Thanks
