I'm really wanting to go to Cardiff to study History and politics, and it's a pretty prestigious uni but I'm doing History Film studies and Philosophy and am predicted AAB in those. Decent grades if I get them but I've been told by some people that Film and philosophy aren't the sort of subjects that will get me into somewhere like Cardiff... Is this true?, should I have taken subjects like English and geography instead? Cheers

I assume you're looking at the Modern History and Politics degree at Cardiff? You have History, which is an essential subject for the course, so that's good. From what I've read, Philosophy is a useful A Level to have for a History degree, so that's fine too. Film Studies might put you at a slight disadvantage as it is considered by a lot of universities to be a 'soft' A Level subject, meaning it isn't looked upon as highly as other, more traditional subjects like the sciences, maths, English Literature, Geography etc. However, as long as you have a well written personal statement and impressive reference from your tutors, I think it's still likely you'll get an offer
