Maths Question - Help Please!

Question: If 1/x^3 was written as x^n, what is the value of n?

Would you simply flip it so that it becomes x^(3/1)? So the answer is 3?

Any help would be appreciated as I don't understand it!

when you have one divided by x to the power, the power becomes negative.
