    Both 3-hydroxybutanoic acid and 3-oxobutanoic acid will undergo the triiodomethane (iodoform) reaction. State the reagent(s) used for this reaction and the observation made.

    state the reagent and observation. The mark sheme says the reagent used is KOH/I2 in my notes I have Naoh/I2 so why is it Koh?

    You need alkaline iodine, the Na+ or K+ are spectator ions.
