    Hey Guys;

    I am considering taking a summer placement instead of taking a Sandwich year and I need to ask, are they just as good?
    I seriously don't want to spend any more time at uni than I need to, I retook a year at A level and I want to do a PGCE to become a science teacher, that's an extra 2 years on top of a normal degree... 3 if I include the Sandwich year.

    So, are summer placements as good as the full 12 months (am looking into a 10-12 week summer placement).

    If you are already planning to do a PGCE and become a teacher, then a year long placement won't serve you very well - unless you can get a placement in a school, which seems unlikely. Drop the Sandwich year and spend the summer doing teaching/house parenting or something similar with kids with a view to strengthening your PGCE application.

    I am currently doing a school project thing in a small group called "Green Ambassadors", no I'm not a hippy before you get any ideas where we go into schools and try and encourage sustainable issues. =P

    I am only doing it to get something on my application, plus I done a TA thing while at Sixth Form for a year and am going to use one of my free days a week to become a TA at a local school (will make the phone call tomorrow).

    Am also considering doing this "Lab in a lorry" thing plus a bit of tutoring at the weekend (3-5 hours) alongside my degree (Biomedical Science). I have also applied to do a First Aid course on the 25th of November to strengthen my application.

    I know this sounds like a lot but realistically, it's about an extra 12 hours a week. =l
