I've just recently joined a dance group & they are holding auditions next week... I'm slightly body conscious at the moment though - I'm 5 ft 3 and weigh 140 pounds, so my BMI is just about OK... add a couple of pounds & I'd be overweight. I guess I'm slightly chubby rather than fat. All of the girls in the group are slim... Whilst I'm not slim people generally tell me I'm not fat either but am a healthy weight. I can't help but feel conscious though & I feel like they may not pick me just because of my weight - slim people look better dancing than someone who has a few extra pounds on them. If I was slimmer I'd find it easier to do certain moves too such as getting my leg up to my chest, but my slightly podgy belly prevents me from doing so at the moment. Do you think they would discriminate?

You should lose weight for your own benefit tbh. You'l enjoy the activity more.

Lol dude. You're 10 stone. I'm 10 stone and would join a dance group tomorrow without feeling self conscious if I was still into dance. You're slim enough to dance. They won't not pick you because of your weight, if they don't pick you is because you're not up to their standards. Really no point in you worrying about your weight when 10 stone/140 pounds is not big at all... I know of a girl at my university who's studying a dance degree and she is big. I'm guessing my uni didn't reject her because she wasn't slim? So why would a dance group?

No, it won't affect your dancing directly, though it's possible that if you're out of shape you might find it harder

I don't think people at uni would be that petty. Societies are generally pretty inclusive.
