Expensive package being delivered but I could be out of the house watch

I ordered an expensive package to be delivered to my house. I needed it delivered as soon as possible, however the earliest it can be delivered is Tuesday some time before 6pm. But I will be out of my house from 11:30am till at least 8pm that day. If it is delivered while I am out the house and put in the porch, somebody could easily just steal it while I am out.

I emailed the customer service department but they said that unfortunately they can't specify a time and they apologise for the inconvenience (very helpful of them ).

What should I do? I don't want to leave the package with neighbours by the way.

Is it being delivered by royal mail? If so they'll likely just take it back to the nearest parcel sorting office and you can go and pick it up.

Have they got an FAQ page that says what happens if there is no one home upon delivery?

You can contact them and ask them to leave it in a safe place. Can they get access to your garden to leave it by the back door? Or hide it somewhere on your property? Otherwise there isn't really anything you can do.

With Interlink, you can track the parcel on the day and find out a one hour time slot when it will be delivered. If that isn't suitable, they can leave it in a safe place (ie shed, garage, back garden) or can leave with a neighbour. Or you can arrange redelivery for a differnet date.

Can it not be arranged with them for a time when you are in. I know some deliveries are made very late at night . Perhaps you could ask for a weekend delivery or see if a family member or friend can be around when they are due to deliver at an agreed slot.
