Hello! I'm writing up some politics notes and I missed a lesson in which we covered key concepts of classical liberalism, one thing I can't define is egoistical individualism. Is this the idea that society doesn't exist and it comprises of egoistical, self-interested and self-reliant individuals? Thanks!

    If you define both words:

    Egotistic: a self-seeking show-off.

    Individualism: selfish and self-reliant.

An individualist society is one that adopts the free market. This typically applies to the west however it's rare to find a truly individualist society nowadays.

The Republican Party in America are individualists. They believe in the power of the individual and sensationalise the American Dream, whereby if you work hard and play by the rules, you can build your future.

Egotistical individualism in a societal context would be simply boasting about your success, either directly or indirectly. This can be by buying flash cars, wearing expensive suits or saying I'm rich.
