I was looking through my (awesome) Econs TA's blog the other day and he said the MSc Economics at LSE are in awe at the sheer eliteness of what they call the "EMEists". It's a truly hardcore course and I'm sure recruiters (if not bosses) know it. I'd say it's hard to compare it with the BSc Econs since they're so different, but it's definitely at least as prestigious as the MSc Econometrics.
Vinayak Nagaraj, is it?

One of the main reasons people complete this course is so that they can then apply for a top Economics Phd program in the US.

Economics degrees in the UK, even Cambridge and LSE, fail to provide the mathematical skills necessary for serious postgraduate study in economics.
Many choose to complete this course at LSE, straight Econ masters at Camridge or 2 year Mphil at Oxford for a spinrboard onto a top Phd program.

That said and done it sounds like an amazing course if you plan on going into FI/Structured products research or quantitative trading. Not sure if it gives you the programming skills necessary to become a quant however... someone else may know about this...

Hey!
I'm entering the 2yr EME next year... but I'm not sure I'll try entering in a PhD in the US afterwards. In any case, for what I've heard and some people that have done it, it's really a good way to get into a PhD as long as you manage to get distinction... which is awarded to about 1/3 of the students... hardcore!
The EME is truly hardcore. From what I've heard talking to people, it is probably THE most respected economics masters in the world.

What undergraduate degree would provide the best preparation for the course given is very mathematical nature? Does the the Bsc Econometrics and mathematical economics at LSE have the same reputation as the economics degree or the Msc Econometrics?

Math is better than Econometrics for IB if you want to do quantitative job.
