State the greatest scientist of all time, then post in the thread what you think the greatest invention is.

The wheel. Seriously. Seems obvious but not when it wasn't there.

Got to also say that Turing asking the question 'Can machines think?' and the advent of the computer was profound for humanity, but with every passing year it's easier to argue the case that it is harming us.

Surprised you haven't got Alan Turing on there tbh, he was a genius.

Isaac Newton. I can't possibly imagine what the world would look like with no knowledge of Newtonian physics.

I predict you're going to catch it for not including Feynman and Tesla

    anyway
Oliver Heaviside is something of an unsung hero imo

Interesting replies guys, thanks. I only included those scientists because I had a limit of 16. However the scientists named are also very remarkable

Is it too predictive if I vote for Alexander Fleming ?

Darwin totally revolutionised Biology and our understanding of life. A lot of our progress in Biology is based around Evolution and this includes medical research.

The theory would have been patched together without him but it was the way in which he put it together and how quickly it was able to influence the field despite its controversial subject. Our knowledge of medicine and biology would have taken a serious hit had he not released The Origin of Species, whereas I'm not so sure that the ideas of other scientists would have held entire fields of study back for as long had they not been discovered.
