More EU madness. The EU is now offering to pay for 'free' flights for immigrants to fly to EU nations to stop them having to walk. EU law states they must stay in the 1st safe country they enter & now the EU wants to pay for their flights to the UK

'Free flights to safe countries would be a much better option, the official said, than uncertain treks to the north'

You're becoming as about as tedious as illegal to be poor is with your multiple one issue postings.

Did you read your own link? They want to give flights to those already in Greece. You make it sound as if their throwing first class tickets out of helicopters across Syria.

Yes & under EU law asylum seekers have to stay in the 1st safe country they enter which is normally Turkey or Greece, giving them free flights is not only a violation of this law it makes them illegal immigrants not asylum seekers

Given the levels of migration it is pretty clear that the original system is broken and won't work. Given the numbers coming here it has become an European wide problem.

The level of migration so far has been tiny compared to the possible numbers. I agree that the current system isn't working but making it MORE attractive to come to Europe is not the answer.

Considering those arriving in Greece are usually doing so by dangerous sea crossing, this is just going to encourage others to take the life threatening journey.

True, and I think more effort needs to put into solutions on the ground and within the region. But you still have the problem of what do you do with those that have made the crossing. You can't just dump the problem on Greek and Italian laps and leave them to it. That just incentives those countries to send people further into the EU. I see a lot of justifiable criticism thrown at the EU over this but few workable solutions other than close the borders or send them back.

Who said anything about dumping it on the Greeks or Italians? I'd ship them back to the refugee camps in the bordering countries where they were already safe and being funded by massive donations of aid.

Then we should stop them from being able to land there.
