Warwick MORSE offer question

Would I shoot myself in the foot if I say i'm gonna do STEP? (I'm proper struggling with it)

I'm scared i'm gonna end up in the situation where I am getting offered AAA+2 in STEP but then end up getting something like A*A*A (which i think i'd probably end up getting) and failing STEP and not meeting the offer when I could have simply met it if I got the A*AA offer by staying quiet (and saying nothing about doing STEP since it is not even compulsory)

Would that result in me not getting in? Or would they accept me anyway?
