it must have been very cold for it to be dubbed that right? and why was it a war? how does temperature and fighting link? was it during christmas?

p.s this is part of my history course work, and im having a difficult time learning the context.

Please be trolling.It's called the cold war because the USSR and USA never fought each other directly (a hot /active conflict) but instead confronted each other through proxy wars,stand offs,arms races etc,we call it a cold war.

Cold is a metaphor for indirect. The two belligerent powers (USA and Russia) did not fight directly, hence the name cold.
