I was told at the start of this Lent term, which meant I didn't have any bursary for that first term (instead, my bursary for the year was divided over this term and next term- half in each). I'm not sure whether this was the same in other colleges.
And yeah they're pretty generous...I made it clear that although I wasn't very well-off I wasn't struggling at uni financially wise, and I still received a bursary.
I am an EU citizen and not sure whether it is the same procedure for UK applicants. I was sent a purple form, named application to the Cambridge Trusts, which I had to fill in and explain how I would finance myself. You have to put exactly how much money you would need to get you through the year, according to the costs that the Senior Tutor has established.
I am aware that EU citizens do not receive the bursary schemes, intended to UK students. We are only entitled to some scholarships and these Cambridge Trusts.
The decision depends on your college. If you're in Trinity and some other colleges like King's and Clare, you can expect it in May at the earliest. Most decisions come out in June.
As for generosity, the maximum bursary for any EU citizen will be in the order of 5000 pounds, all means-tested. As for international applicants, there are no strict uniform rules. They can be too generous, or too stingy.
I just got my decision: I'm an EU student, with a conditional offer (though my condition isn't too serious, just an IELTS exam...). I sent back the purple form in February and got my offer yesterday: 2000 pounds/year. Actually I wasn't even dreaming about so much so this was a really nice surprise Any questions? -feel free to ask, I'll answer if I can...
Oh, I forgot to mention, what I said applied only for non-EU overseas students. EU applications are handled by the Cambridge European Trust; those from the Commonwealth by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, and those outside by the Cambridge Overseas Trust.
Jucus, what was your annual anticipated shortfall in your application?

good question mmm sort of 1500 pounds as far as I can remember, the thing is that I'm in Italy now and all these are home in Hungary so I can't say the exact number
You're lucky. My annual anticipated short-fall is around £18,000. (I'm overseas - so my fees alone comes to £16,000 p.a.) What's worse - I'll have to wait till May to hear of my decision.

That's really much...and I was crying over this money issue, now I understood that I'm lucky indeed...anyway as far as I know the Trusts are really generous normally so you have every chance to cover your short-fall!Good luck!
I'm just filling it in and got quite confused about this degree line.... what am I supposed to write there? my subject (SPS) or leave it blank cause I don't have any degree yet...???

At least you understand. Most respond by saying - "That's bad luck, hon. But, none of our business. You must have shut up and aimed low"

hey, you can make all the fun of me you want but I'd rather ask and confirm what I think is true than not receive the money just because I was too shy to ask...
...anyway, these forms didn't specify if it was only for students starting their first undergraduate degree....some people might have their first degree from somewhere else

Oh well, fingers crossed.
Oh no, I was agonising over this -compared to yours - tiny little shortfall for weeks! So believe me, I do understand the desperate feeling of "I need money.Much!-to study at the university where I want".In Hungarian currency even 1 pound is a smaller fortune so...I hope you get good news and as soon as possible
I didn't get one from the European Trust...but then i have sufficient funds wasn't expecting one!! Did get a £100 book voucher though and i'm now an Honorary Fellow of the European Society...
