Hey I've got an interview at Pets At Home on the 27th of this month, the email didn't say if it was a group interview or not, what does the interview involve? D:
I have an interview with pets at home in a week or so and im pretty nervous... they say in an email that i should go wearing casual clothes? I though smart dress was always best????

Thankkkyou for any info xxx
I'd love to get a part time job at my local Pets at Home for summer after I've finished my GCSEs! Would they take on a sixteen year old? I've not had a job before but I own two dogs, a cat and a horse, (had little hamsters and guinea pigs when I was younger) and I did two weeks work experience in a large Equestrian retail store which sold horse/rider equipment and farm animal foods, I did some stock taking, shelf stocking and working on the till etc. that's all really :P should I just hand in my CV in store or something and wait til they need someone to work part time? :s-smilie:

Have a look on their website as they are looking for part time positions at all my local stores.
I know this sounds stupid but im 13 and i was wondering if pets at home has any jobs for this age group maybe like caring for the animals or cleaning them out because i have hamsters and rabbits of my own and i was just wondering if i could help out there rather than having a paper round or something like that?

Hello

I got an email saying that I got through to the next stage after the Pets at Home assessment. I have the Pets at Home work trial and interview. I was just wondering if anyone had recently been to one before as what happens?

Thanks Megan22
Heyy

I currently work at Pets at Home, so if its anything like what we do, you'll basically be put with a colleague for around an hour and just follow them round, they may ask you to help clean the fish tanks or animal cages, you may get shown how to use the till, how to face up and see how they deal with customers. And then you'll go for an interview with one of the managers and they'll ask you the usual:
'Why do you want to work here?'
'Why would you be a good candidate?'
'What experience do you have?'
'Tell me about past customer experiences youve had?'

Just the generic stuff really, the best advice i can give you is just get really involved and seem really interested in everything they ask you to do, even if it seems like a really boring job, and also try and become good friends with the colleague they put you with!

I hope it all goes well, out of curiosity which store are you going too?
Good Luck!

Hey,
Unfortunately they wont hire anyone under the age of 16 :frown: But obviously once you turn 16 you'll have plenty of experience that will stand you in good stead! You can sign up for email alerts on their Career website and then you will know whenever they are hiring!

To all those others wondering about assessments, the process is:
1. A group interview, generally around 20 people there, you stand up and talk about yourself, then get into groups and have to come up with a new idea for a product and try and sell it to the managers (a bit like Dragons Den), and then you have a mini interview to get the basic details.
2. If successful you'll get invited to a Work Trial which lasts around an hour, you'll be put with a colleague and help cleaning, working on the till, facing up and meeting customers, and then have a proper interview with a manager.

Also the whole original application is done online, so if you hand a CV or letter into store they will just shred or bin it as they cant do anything with it, you have to go through the online application!
Also always dress smart even when it says casual :P

Any more questions let me know, i work there!

Hi

I'm going to the Pentland one. In the Work Trial do you have to sell products to the customers or is it more just watching what the person who works there, does?

Thanks Megan22
Hiya,

Pets at Home isint really about selling products to customers, so you probably wont have too, mainly customers come to you asking for things and its normally pretty busy, but on a work trial you should just be watching the person and helping when needed.

don't worry about not knowing anything about the animals, or getting trained into how to care for them in the store. I was going to majorly slag off pets at home, as our local one-the warrington branch employs staff with no brains, either that or they have brains but don't bother training their staff. I've known about 7 unrelated different people who have brought animals from that store, only to find that they have given birth several weeks after getting them home, as the warrington staff cannot sex their animals, resulting in them mating. i know this first hand as I asked for a male hamster and later found out I had been given a female when she had a season. my only hesitation in completely running pets at home into the ground is that the branch in knutsford is absolutely awesome, and the staff there couldn't be more helpful, so I'd just say to go with it if you're sure you're working with people who will teach you right! good luck x

The Warrington branch only employs staff with no brains or if they have brains they don't bother training them?
I think you'll find this couldn't be further from the truth.
It is extremely difficult to sex animals, especially young ones, which is the age that PAH sell, but as difficult as it is, the staff are all very very good at it.
May I suggest that instead of judging the staff there for being under-trained you take time to understand that the member of staff that you're talking to may be new, in which case having a customer like yourself would be terrifying.
Even if you do ask a trainee member, they are trained in what to do if they do not know the answer.
All staff are fully trained, or recieving their training, but this training takes a hell of a long time.

Well I work there so anythign you want to know just ask!!!!

Firstly just go to your local store and ask if there are any jobs going. They can give you an application form

I assume you will want full time hours. Depending on the store depends on your hours you will work. Whist at Letchworth I would either start at 7am, 9:15, 11:45 or 13:15 and work untill either 16:15, 18:30, 20:30 or 22:30 when working full time however shifts can and may vary. I also used to do 16:30 till 20:30 whist at school.

Most stores want you to be flexible and work week days and weekends

early shifts (7am start) you will be expected to clean out the animals where's a twilight (untill 22:00) you will concentrate on delivery. Not all stores have twilights though.

Your main job will be to help customers, for this you need knowledge on products and animals. you will need to know about the animals sold aswell as animal's caterd for. Dog nutrition is VERY big at the moment

You will have to do everything, clean animals, look after ill animals, tills, delivery, work back stock, clean the shopfloor (shelves etc) You will do promo changes (oh how fun! Not!)

However I love the job. You will learn so much more about animals and their care

As I said at the start feel free to ask me any questions  If you get an interview I could try and help you with what they look for although each manager is different

Anyway I must go...working a twilight tonight from 6-10 which will mostly consist of customers wanting fish untill 8 (when the store shuts) then aving to do a day's deleivery in 2 hours! ..... oh I love this job.....sometimes!

I have an interview for pets at home in two weeks and I was wondering if you could tell me what to expect? I've heard that you have to do maths and English tests, and then an interview? Please could you give me some advice as I would love to get the job ?Also do you know roughly how many applicants they take for an interview?

thank for your help
''The company is good in a whole. After compleation of your step 1 book and step 2 book you get a small pay rise aswell ''

Hello
I know Im late to this post but I have just got a part time job at Pets At Home

I know about the booklets and was just wondering if you know exactly what the pay rise is after step 1 + 2? I am over 18 and am starting on £6.27?

Also, when is payday, im guessing its the same for every PAH branch? I know its four-weekly but thats it

Obviously its not all about money but they have explained most of everything else!

Thanks!
