    Hi,

I'm currently a first year History student and I'm just wondering if first year really matters? I'm not a procrastinator or slacker, I spend a considerable amount of time studying but I've found uni is so different to what I was used to at A-Level.

I get my work done on time and I'm currently in the process of finishing my first assignment but because the format etc is not what I'm used to, I'm worried my essay is really bad. If I get a bad percentage should I be concerned?

Although I do Chemistry, my first year grades didn't count towards my finally degree but having good marks did help when finding a placement in my second year.

Typically you need to pass everything (40+%) in your first year to progress - so not handing assignments in 'because they don't count' is a bad idea.

the formula used for calculating your final classification should be in the unis academic regulations - probably they're online.
