Pre-employment Check

Hi, just wondering how these pre-employment check works. Is it just formality to check the qualifications and employment history, along with cirminal record, or it is down to the level to verify if you have join a particular sport club at high school/undergraduate level? I'm kind of worry for those small things (like extra-curriculum) as I doubt the clubs I joined keep any record at all, since it has been for many years.

How far back in time are the searches?

It depends what you're going for. I should imagine most of it will be checking that you haven't lied about grades and employment history as you say. What company is going to both spending time and resources to make sure you actually did play tennis for Somewhere-or-Other Sports Centre 3 years ago?

They check employment history by the references you provide, they literally ring up/send a letter asking what sort of person you were, whether you did your job well etc. If you said you were made redundant example they may ask the previous employer to check, in case you are lying about being fired.

Exams are proved by certificates, i don't think theres any sort of database and if there is it is not there for employers to search.

For some jobs they may also to a crb check which checks your criminal record etc and thats with a government agency.

yeah, the type of background check and how far back it goes depends on the job you are interviewing for. Usually you do have to give permission during an initial interview for this. You might inquire at that time about general details of it. Just try to not act shady about it, be careful how you word questions.

alot of companies plain just dont bother checking - thats why so many people lie on their CV's since its so easy to get away with. Especially if your applying to a small business
