    Hi Studentroom,

I'm starting my medicine course in January 2016 at The University of Buckingham (No judging please) and I have around 2 months at my disposal before I start. My question is what could I be doing to get ahead before term starts? I have a lot of free time now so it'd be great to be able to start with an advantage. The curriculum is here: http://medvle.buckingham.ac.uk/

    Thanks

Have a break. Enjoy not studying, it will be the last time you won't have to study for a very very long time. You're not really going to gain any kind of advantage because they'll want you to learn things in a specific way.

I agree. No matter what you learn, it'll be a fraction of what you'll have to know, so any previous knowledge is eclipsed. You'll enjoy it though, it's amazing studying medicine.

    Hi there,

We agree with the others who have replied to your comment that you should just relax! You've got a lot of exciting work and studying ahead of you. So you should absolutely take the time now to just chill out.

Jessica, one of our bloggers, wrote a piece on what it's like to be a medical school student. She particularly stresses that you should enjoy the run-up before university starts, because once you get there it's all systems go! Feel free to check out her blog here.

We hope you take time off and enjoy the next couple of months,

Yep - take up a hobby or two. Read some interesting books. Anything but work! You have your whole life to do that...

We have some people in our class, more colloquially known as 'gunners'. Don't be one of them. Just relax and enjoy yourself.
