I sent my application off about 3 weeks ago and haven't had an offer from any of my five unis. It's making me really nervous as my friends applying for the sane course at the same unis all received offers around last week, and most have lesser predicted grades. I think my personal statement and reference were pretty good too.

Should i be worried? If unis don't want you, will they reject straight away or do they leave you hanging for months?

    Thanks.

Sometimes unis take longer to get back to you it's not much to worry about. Especially if you applied to a high ranked uni or a popular course they have a lot of applications to go through.

Applying for English, so work experience not needed although have worked at a newspaper office and have loads of related ec.

Applied to Oxford, Durham, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol. I'm worried about the last 3 as they seem to have given out loads of offers already.

Got 4A*, 4A's and 2 B's at GCSE, could it be these which are holding me back?

Some universities or departments take longer than others, it's not a reflection on the quality of your application. Some get back to people very quickly, others - as a policy or for other reasons - don't get back to people until much later. Don't worry

Stop the humble bragging mate, it's not convincing anyone.

Anyways, you may hear soon or you might hear later into the new year, nobody knows. Just calm down and focus on studying.

I actually recall some study showing that people generally prefer no bragging over overt bragging over humble bragging.

Because stating my predicted grades and worrying why I'm getting no offers despite the fact that I exceed the minimum grade required is bragging. Would you say i'm bragging if i said I was predicted AAB? Don't be so insecure.

I'm not the one who said you were humblebragging; I have no issue with this thread. I was just noting something interesting pertaining to your post.
Edit: For the record I echo the general sentiment in this thread with regards to the topic; you should be fine.

In your head, no offers YET = rejection, that is not true and you need sort out your perception of yourself if you think being predicted 4 top grades (you literally cannot get any higher than A*) makes you uncompetitive.

The whole thread literally reeks of humble bragging. Universities have up until April to make decisions on your application, chill.

There's a reason why UCAS sets the deadline until May 2018. I only have 2 offers and I'm waiting for 3 more, there is no correlation between time taken and quality of your application. Having to wait longer does not put you at a disadvantage nor increase the chances of rejection, maybe they haven't gotten to your application yet!

You just need to stay calm and be optimistic, you'll get a response from them soon though it's November so there's lots of time
There is no difference between whether someone who's predicted 4A*'s and someone who's predicted say, ABBC will get an offer at a certain point in time.

One expects that OP has heard back from the universities by now.
