I finally took the step to start counselling at my university, due to anxiety in social situations. Ive had one session so far

Have you got any tips about how to make the most of these sessions and in between them?

(Background: I find it really hard to open up in them even though shes nice, she gave me a couple of things to try, and also I have personal stuff I find difficult to talk about)

You literally need to just be as honest as you can about all your problems and how they affect you. Believe me I know that's easier said than done but if you can push past the barriers to being open it will pay off. Remember that she will have seen it all there's no need to be embarrassed or feel like you're saying something silly or trivial. If it affects you and you feel it's a problem then that's reason enough to discuss it! Talk about whatever you need to. And if she gives you tasks to do or things to try out do them and to their fullest... It's the only way to get the most pay off from your sessions. Hope that helps a little.
