I know that by connecting to Wi-Fi in uni halls, system admins may be able to see data traffic to and from my devices.

My question is, will I raise the alarm if I'm viewing content which is, let's say, nsfw? Would they be in a position to restrict what I view, or can I view what I want?

No, it's unfiltered so you can get handsy watching whatever you like. Otherwise it would be interference with freedom or something like that. If they don't want you to watch it they will just filter it for everyone
