I've been single for a long time now and I have been looking for someone to start a relationship with but I haven't found anyone. People keep saying to me "you'll find someone when you least expect it" I'm not sure I believe this. What does everyone else think?

I would say it's as likely as strangers on the street throwing banknotes at your feet randomly.

Likelihood of finding someone when you are not looking: x%
Likelihood of finding someone by looking: y%.
Total chance of success when not looking: x%
Total chance of success when looking: x% + y%
Therefore, even if it is true you might find someone when not looking, the chance of finding someone when looking is greater, no matter what the numbers x% and y% are.
